State Road 11 In Jackson County Closed This Weekend

Last updated on Tuesday, July 15, 2014

(JACKSON CO.) - State Road 11 in Jackson County will be closed two consecutive weekends beginning Friday for bridge deck repairs.

The portion to close will be from State Road 11's interchange with Interstate 65 at the Jonesville exit in northern Jackson County to the White River bridge north of Seymour, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The state is repairing and overlaying bridge decks at four structures along the route.

The closure begins at 8 a.m. Friday, and officials plan to reopen the north-south highway by 6 p.m. Sunday.

The following weekend the closure will begin at 1 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 p.m. Sunday.

Motorists are advised to detour around the State Road 11 bridge using U.S. 50 and I-65.

CLR Inc. of Vincennes is the state's contractor for this $413,284 bridge project, according to INDOT.

Construction crews will place a polymeric overlay on bridge decks at four State Road 11 structures:

* Two-span 200-foot bridge over the East Fork of White River located 1.95 miles south of I-65

* Four-span 202-foot I-Beam bridge over a White River overflow at .48 miles south of I-65

* Six-span 400-foot I-Beam bridge over a White River overflow at .98 miles south of I-65

* Seven-span 467-foot I-Beam bridge over a White River overflow at 1.49 miles south of I-65

The "polycarb" overlay is placed in two lifts to form a coating of polymeric epoxy on top of the four bridge decks. This modified material serves as a sealant against moisture to extend the life of structures.

Bad weather could push the operation back a weekend, according to the state.
