Last updated on Thursday, July 31, 2014

(UNDATED) - State Senator Brent Steele (R-Bedford) is encouraging teens 16 to 22 who are interested in state and local government to apply for the Indiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council.

Founded in 2008, the council was established to provide the Indiana General Assembly with information about issues most important to young adults across the state. Topics can range from education and employment to substance abuse and poverty.

Members of the council are chosen through an appointment process. The council meets three to six times each year in Indianapolis. Students on the council will be paid for their attendance and will receive excused absences from school if a meeting should conflict.

Interested students should submit name, address, phone number and a brief statement regarding their interest in serving on the council to Senator Steele by email at Senator.Steele@iga.in.gov or by mail to Steele at 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.
