Oolitic K-9 Dies After Being Hit By Vehicle, Dept. Raising Funds For New Dog

Last updated on Wednesday, July 23, 2014

(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Police Department K-9 Koda was killed after she was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night.

According to Deputy Marshal Bill Allen, he let Koda out and that is when she took off after seeing another dog - something the dog had never done.

Koda was spotted in the area of Trogden Lane and Ind. 37, which is where she was found dead a couple of days later, after she had been hit by a vehicle.

Allen purchased the dog when she was six months old. At 14-months old Koda was going to replace aging police dog Shani, who was purchased by the department.

Allen is now in the process of raising funds to buy a new police dog which cost about $5,500 and another $1,400 for training.

Anyone wishing to donate can contact the Oolitic Police Department or Town Hall or mail your donation to the Oolitic Police Department at 109 Main Street, Oolitic 47451. Donations are tax deductible.
