(BEDFORD) - Lincoln Plaza Pharmacy and Crowder’s Pharmacy were two of the first pharmacies in the state to adopt the Yellow Jugs Old Drugs program.
Previously, to dispose of unwanted old prescription medicines, police departments and Indiana State Police would offer certain days to take back unwanted drugs. Yellow Jugs Old Drugs offers another option.
This program, started by Great Lakes Clean Water Organization in 2008, works with pharmacies, such as Lincoln Plaza and Crowder's, and the Indiana Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force to get rid of the old prescription medicines for no charge. Since it started, Yellow Jugs Old Drugs has collected and disposed of more than 45.75 tons of unwanted drugs with the help of pharmacies.
The organization is a nonprofit tax exempt 501(c)3 corporation based in Michigan with a mission "to promote the collection and disposal of unused/unwanted drugs in a safe and approved manner. This will keep harmful effects of drugs out of ground water, surface water and municipal water systems in Michigan and the Great Lakes region."
