(WORTHINGTON) - A Linton woman died after her husband lost control of his motorcycle trying to avoid a deer Monday evening.

43-year-old Rennae Lehman suffered severe head injuries and was flown by helicopter from the scene to the Greene County Hospital and then to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

She died early Tuesday morning.

Lehman's husband, 50-year-old Ronald Lehman, was driving his 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on State Road 157 north of Worthington when Ronald saw a deer standing in the roadway.

Ronald applied his brakes to avoid hitting the deer, but lost control of the motorcycle, laying the bike down.

Both he and Rennae were thrown from the bike. Neither was wearing helmets.

Lehman complained of leg pain and had road rash but refused treatment. Rennae suffered severe head trauma.

The highway was closed for about an hour following the accident. Assisting at the scene were officers from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the Worthington Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance Service and Air-Evac.
