IU Police Car Crashes Responding To Armed-Robbery Call

Last updated on Wednesday, July 30, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University police officer was not injured after he was involved in a two-car accident while responding to a report of an armed robbery at the Convenient Food Mart at East 17th and North Dunn streets Monday afternoon.

According to police, the robbery suspect threatened the clerk with a handgun, took money and fled on foot.

An IU police officer headed to the store was traveling west on East 17th Street by Fess Avenue with his lights and sirens on when another motorist let an Audi passenger car cut through a line of cars and had turned left onto 17th Street to head east. That is when they struck the police car.

While both vehicles were towed from the scene, officers continued to look for the robbery suspect, who is a white male with a small build, between 5-feet-6-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall, wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Bloomington Police.
