Identities Of Teens Killed In Fiery Crash Released

Last updated on Monday, July 7, 2014

(SALEM) - The Washington County Coroner’s Office has identified the teenage victims of a fiery crash that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Claude Combs released the information Thursday night.

Coroner Rondale Brishaber has identified the driver as 17-year-old Joel Clay Reeves of Salem and his 18-year-old passenger Samuel Levi Holstine of Campbellsburg. The boys were students at Salem High School.

The boys died in a crash on State Road 160 about 5.5 miles outside of Salem at 3:59 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Combs, the 1990's model Ford Ranger was traveling east on State Road 160 when Reeves, who was driving too fast for road conditions, lost control of the truck that went off the left side of the highway, skidding about 120 feet, striking a tree head-on and then burst into flames.

Combs says the boys were killed instantly. Brishaber says the boys died from massive head and chest trauma.
