(BLOOMINGTON) - A memorial service was held Thursday for the homeless man whose body was found in Seminary Park in Bloomington Thursday morning.
No foul play is suspected in the death of 39-year-old William Archer, according to Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer. An autopsy will be performed in Terre Haute this morning.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters, Archer's body was found by officer Elliott Jordon during a routine patrol. His body was found on the ground, partially covered with a blanket at 6:51 a.m. Jordan immediately recognized Archer.
Police says Archer had a criminal history in Monroe County that dates back to 1999 and includes more than 40 arrests for public intoxication - his most recent on July 2. He was released from jail last Monday.
On Thursday afternoon, Archer's friends acknowledged the man's taste for Kamchatka vodka as they toasted his life during a memorial service at Seminary Park.
The Herald Times reports that Erica Kremer and Faith Butcher used what little money they had and purchased the vodka and held a cookout of hotdogs, ears of corn and vanilla cake that read "We love you Archer R.I.P. 7-10-14. They then poured some of the vodka on the spot where Archer's body was found.
