(ORLEANS) - Firefighters from two departments battled a blaze Thursday night that caused extensive damage to the home of Betty Jo and David Henderson Sr.

According to Orange County Rural District II Fire Chief Bill Salle there was extensive damage to the kitchen area and heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

Orleans and Rural District II firefighters were called to the one-store wooden-framed home in the 600 block of Hawthorne Drive in Orleans just before 7 p.m. Thursday.

The homeowners got out of the home unharmed, but one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated at the scene.

According to Orleans Fire Chief Norm Cundiff the fire spread from the kitchen area into the attic, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze.
