(EVANSVILLE) - A newly hired doctor at Daviess Community Hospital was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

40-year-old Dr. Samuel Byrd of Vincennes was stopped by Evansville Police near the intersection of Green River Road and Morgan lane after a passerby saw Byrd's vehicle struck two curbs before pulling from a nearby restaurant.

According to police, Byrd did pass a Breathalyzer test, he failed multiple field sobriety tests. He was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

At the jail, Byrd allegedly told officers he had taken a prescription called Propanol earlier that morning.
