(BROWNSTOWN) - Brownstown resident Tim Warren he does not have a problem with people raising goats, pigs and rabbits, but don’t raise them within the city limits.
Warren addressed the Brownstown Town Council wanting them to write an ordinance banning farm animals within the town limits.
Brownstown Council President John Nolting told Warren he thought the town had an ordinance dealing with animal issues, but he didn't think it had any provisions keeping residents from having agricultural animals because when it was established people were allowed to keep chickens and other animals.
Warren who lives in the 200 block of East Commerce Street says his neighbors began raising just a couple of goats, now they have six to eight, a pig and now about 100 rabbits. Although he does not want to cause problems with his neighbors, Warren says he's tired of dealing with the smell and the flies.
Council member Ben Lewis says the council is still working on passing a zoning ordinance, which could impact the situation.
Council members agreed to look into the problem, to find out legally what can be done.
