Bloomfield Man Arrested On Attempted Murder Charge

(BLOOMINGTON ) - A Bloomfield man is facing multiple charges including attempted murder after he allegedly punched a man in the face and then ran him over with his car Wednesday.

27-year-old Danilo Lawrence Caceres was arrested on charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by bodily waste, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving, battery resulting in injury and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to Bloomington Police Sgt. Jeff Canada, police were called to the intersection of Kirkwood Avenue and Walnut Street at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police Capt. Joe Qualters, Caceres had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend and others outside of a bar in the 100 block of South Walnut Street. He then backed out of the alley and hit his girlfriends parked Cadillac and drove away.

A 27-year-old man who saw the accident told police Caceres stopped at the light at Kirkwood Avenue and Walnut Street. The man walked up to Caceres car and yelled at him for leaving the scene of an accident. According to the police, that is when Caceres put the car in reverse and backed down Walnut Street, got out of his car and punched the man in the face.

The man told police he walked away from the fight.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Caceres got back into his car drove it up onto the sidewalk at Walnut Street, striking the man he had punched with his front bumper.

According to the police report, the man was dragged about 30 feet into the road. Caceres then fled the scene. The victim suffered severe injuries including cuts, road rash and a possible fractured pelvis.

An officer in the area spotted Caceres vehicle headed west on West Third Street and caught up to the car at Ind. 48 and attempted to stop the car.

Caceres would not stop and eventually he lost control of the car on Garrison Chapel Road. The car went into a yard and struck a tree.

According to police, Caceres would not cooperate with police and spit in the face of an officer at the accident scene.

Caceres was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was treated and released.

He was booked into the Monroe County Jail, where his bond was placed on a hold.
