Bloomfield Junior/Senior High School Holds Parent Meeting For 1:1 Pilot

Last updated on Tuesday, July 22, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - Bloomfield Junior/Senior High School will host a 1:1 Computer Pilot informational meeting for parents of junior and senior high school students at 6 p.m. tonight in the Junior/Senior High School Cafeteria.

Principal David Dean said the meeting will provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions about the pilot. The pilot will require students to bring their own device as the school integrates technology into its curriculum.

Dean said most devices students already have will meet the school's requirements. He said there are plenty of options for parents looking to purchase devices.

"The two requirements are that the device has wireless connectivity and a writing component," he said.
Dean said iPhones and Kindle Fires are devices that fulfill the device requirements. He said Nooks, regular Kindles and gaming devices will not meet the requirements.

Dean stressed that this year will be a pilot year for the program and some things will need to be adjusted, but students will be able to make their own decisions on which device works best for them.

While the state Board of Accounts does not allow schools to offer the ability to purchase devices through the school, Dean said there will be devices on hand for students who need them.
