(BEDFORD) - Bedford Firefighters are still at the scene of a house fire that started at 3:11 a.m. this morning at 1921 H Street.

According to Bedford Fire Chief Jon Wagner the fire started in the kitchen area at the home and then traveled up the staircase to the upper level.

Rita Ester, who lives in the home directly across from the main fire station, woke firefighters around 2:55 a.m. The house is owned by Sandy Sheppard

Everyone escaped the blaze safely but one firefighters was given oxygen at the scene and returned to work.

"The fire is under investigation," Wagner says. "There is extensive damage. Our investigator and firefighters are still on the scene and we should be able to release more information later today."
