Last updated on Sunday, July 20, 2014

(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an early Sunday morning ATV accident that injured a 7 year-old passenger.

Just after 12 a.m. Sunday morning, first responders were dispatched to an ATV accident near the area of 9400 North C.R. 400 East in Greenfield, IN. Upon arrival, officers learned that Gregory Wensel, 32, of Greenfield was operating a Polaris Ranger in a field when he struck a rut while attempting to maneuver a left turn. This caused the ATV to flip on its side and land on the leg of the 7 year-old passenger.

The passenger suffered serious right leg injuries and was transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis by LifeLine helicopter. He was listed in stable condition.

Initial investigation revealed that family and friends were attending a get-together when the accident occurred. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor of the accident.

Assisting Agencies: Hancock County Sheriff's Department, Greenfield Fire Department and Green Township Volunteer Fire Department.
