(MARTINSVILLE) - Alley Cat Allies is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who may have killed as many as 30 cats in Martinsville.

Alley Cat Allies is a national organization dedicated to the humane treatment of cats.

Martinsville Police says they do have a 15-year-old suspect that they believed killed the cats in the vicinity of Home Avenue and South Street, but police have not found any remains and don't have any evidence against the boy.

What the department does know, is that a local animal hospital reported that five cats appeared to have had their heads stomped in. One was saved, but the other four had to be euthanized.

There are rumors that videos were taken on a cell phone of the deaths and abuse, but no one has said they've seen it.

The boy's mother refused police access to the boy's phone without a warrant.

People with information about the cat killings may call the Martinsville Police Department at 765-342-6614 or crime stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

The Alley Cats website is www.alleycat.org.
