(WASHINGTON) - Washington Mayor Joe Wellman issued a notice of caution to customers of the city's utilities after learning a company has been soliciting utility customers in an attempt to sell them insurance to cover broken water and sewer lines.

The company is telling customers they got their names from the city, something Wellman says in not true.

Without issuing an opinion on the validity or advisability of purchasing the insurance, Wellman says he wants the public to know the solicitation is in no way connected to the city.
