(PAOLI) - A Paoli father and son will showcase their step and rafting tool on June 18 -20 in Pittsburgh at the Invention & New Product Exposition, America’s largest trade show.
Last year, the event had about 300 inventors from more than 20 countries. Inventors Harvey and William Farr, says the step and rafting tool eliminates painstaking steps for carpenters when building stairs and rafters and they have three companies interested in the invention. The The step and rafter tool will include a copyrighted, illustrated manual and a DVD.
"Step and Rafter Tool" is not only unique in its design; it is especially unique in the scales and graduations on both face and back. The invention gives the carpenter or builder the ability to accurately determine the rise of stairs and their layout from a floor to floor measurement only. It also allows for the exact layout of all rafters, including hip and valley - as well as jack rafters both hip and valley. The tool includes an illustrated manual which is copyrighted and a helpful DVD for understanding its function.
The benefits to the carpenter and builder are such that when he needs to build stairs, he will reach for the Step and Rafter Tool before he has to fumble with a framing square and find the dogs that go with it. All a user would need to do is consult the tables and he will find how high the riser is to go from floor to floor without trying to figure them on his own. Layout is simple: set the tool and go. The same applies to rafters: set the pitch needed and go. No need to readjust the tool for commons, hips, valleys or jacks. Step and Rafter Tool does it all with one setting.
The inventors thought of their idea because of his experience as a custom home builder. "I was a custom home builder for 25 years and found that building stairs and rafters was the most taxing job for any carpenter," said Harvey Farr. "At one point, I carried at least 20 different patterns for stairs in the work van. I also had to carry several sets of clamp-on framing square dogs since they were easy to lose. I thought there had to be a better way so my son, William and I put our heads together and the Stair and Rafter tool was born. I have since retired but the tool was used on more jobs that I can remember and I seldom use the framing square that sits rusting in my shop."
Harvey Farr and William Farr are exhibiting at INPEX with the hopes of finding a manufacturer, venture capitalist or licensee.
