Oolitic Festival Celebrates Red, White & Blue Saturday

(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Festival Parade is Saturday in conjunction with Flag Day and will celebrate the red, white and blue.

Festivities begin at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Patriot Lodge and the Kiwanis will hold their fish fry from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Festivities will kick off downtown at 9 a.m. with food and retail vendors on Main Street.

There will be a Kidz Zone with bounce houses, bumper cars and zip line. Attendees can purchase a $5 bracelet for the bouncy houses, to ride the bumper cars cost $2 and tickets for the zip line are $5 which will be set up at the Community Center on Hoosier Avenue. Proceeds from the Kidz Zone game booths will be used by Backstreet Mission of Bloomington to feed and clothe the homeless.

Parade Grand Marshal Frank Turner, will be honored by U.S. Representative Todd Young right before the parade line up at 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Turner served in WWII and landed at Omaha Beach just six days following D Day. He survived battles and skirmishes across France, Belgium and Germany. As a proud patriot, Turner is one of the oldest remaining WWII veterans living in Oolitic.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. with a fly over and the parade venturing down Hoosier and Main streets, traveling south on Hoosier Avenue to 9th Street, east on 9th to Lafayette Avenue, then north on Lafayette back to Hoosier Avenue.

The festival will conclude at dusk with Circle City Pyrotechnics letting off fireworks at Dollens Elementary /Oolitic Middle School baseball field.
