Norman Man Facing Attempted Murder Charge

(BROWNSTOWN) - A Norman man sought in a stabbing and shooting surrendered to police early Friday.

39-year-old Tony David Mitchell faces one count of attempted murder, a Class A felony; two counts of aggravated battery, a Class B felony; two counts of battery committed by means of a deadly weapon, a Class C felony; and criminal recklessness, a Class C felony, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Mitchell was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 2:54 a.m. Friday and was being held there without bond pending his initial hearing.

The shooting took place May 27 in Norman.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers says that there were two possible shootings that day. The first occurred at 12890 West County Road 650 North in Norman, while the second happened in the Crothersville area. Authorities initially believed that the shootings were related, but subsequently determined that they were not.

Sheriff Carothers says his department took the lead on the Norman shooting and developed a person of interest in - Troy Mitchell. Jackson County Prosecutor Amy Marie Travis requested a warrant for Mitchell's arrest.

Sheriff Carothers says that Mitchell turned himself in Friday to officers with at the sheriff's department. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
