Mitchell To Seek Loan For Repairs To Wastewater Treatment Facility

Last updated on Thursday, June 5, 2014

(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell City Council Monday agreed to seek a loan to repair its aging and deteriorating wastewater treatment facility.

The Times-Mail reports that repairs to the 26-year-old facility located on Meridian Road would cost $3.15 million. The city plans to secure a loan for that amount. It would be paid back through increased user fees over a 20-year period.'

City officials could not estimate what that increase would be until a rate study could be done. If sewer rates are raised, residents would not see the increase until next year when the repair project begins.

Construction is expected to last through the spring of 2016.
