Girl Scout Troop Collecting Plastic Caps To Purchase Picinic Table For Schools

Last updated on Tuesday, June 10, 2014

(UNDATED) - The Dollens Elementary Junior Girl Scout Troop is collecting plastic caps to recycle into a picnic table for the school’s playground and a bench for Stalker Elementary school.

The troop needs to collect 1,000 pounds of caps and raise $450 for the table and 400 pounds of caps and $250 for the bench. Recyclers can drop off clean caps in a collection container at the Bedford Recycling Center on J Street. Or wait till August, when students return to school and the caps can be dropped off at Dollens and Stalker school.

Leader Denise Sproles said the troop of third- and fourth-graders from Dollens and Stalker hopes to complete the project by November and earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, which is given to troops who perform community service.

In addition to caps, the troop is also accepting cash to have the bench and table made. Donations can be mailed to Denise Sproles, at 208 Sixth St., in Oolitic, with checks payable to Girl Scout Troop 60216. For more information, call Sproles at 276-1487.
