Bloomington Residents Upset With Habitat For Humanity Chapter

Last updated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - Some Bloomington residents say they were surprised that a Habitat for Humanity chapter picked their neighborhood for construction of several new homes.

Resident Sarah Taylor says she and others living in the West Pointe subdivision didn't know Monroe County Habitat for Humanity had bought seven lots there until excavation equipment showed up a month ago.

The Herald-Times reports the volunteers are will be building three houses in the neighborhood as part of a 12-day construction blitz starting this week.

Taylor says Habitat for Humanity is a great organization, but the group and the neighborhood's developer gave no notice about the plans.

Habitat chapter director Kerry Thomson says anyone could have bought the lots and that the new homeowners will be good neighbors.
