Bedford Receives Approval To Move Forward With Depot And Trail Projects

Last updated on Thursday, June 12, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Patti Yount, of Lochmueller Group, told the Bedford Redevelopment Commission Monday the city has received approval from INDOT to proceed with the Stellar downtown trail and depot project.

Under a contract signed with the city, INDOT will provide funds for 80 percent of the project costs, up to $2,144,400.
The depot will be moved to a lot near 14th and J streets and renovated for use as offices.

The Lawrence County Tourism Commission has been mentioned as a possible tenant.

INDOT also is providing grant money for the downtown streetscape project and trail work.

The downtown trail will use public property. It will include two loops downtown and a spur to the north along L Street to connect it with the Milwaukee Trail - a separate project that is already underway.

A letter sent to affected property owners notes the work is to be done on public land without acquisition of private property. Still, surveys must be done to make sure the location is on city land. The survey also will help determine how wide the trail can be.
