BBQ At The Quarry, Farmers' Market Will Surround Square This Weekend

(BEDFORD) - Saturday’s Bedford Farmers’ Market will be on the east side of the Lawrence County Courthouse square from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, as BBQ on the Quarry will take up most of Harp Commons and the west side of the square.

In addition to all of the BBQ on the Quarry activities, Saturday's market will offer fresh fruits and vegetables, local hormone-free meats, home-baked goods and crafts.

Vendors also will offer a yard sale on the square, bringing in items from homesteads and farms to sell Saturday.
There will be a fresh food demonstration by Cari Littrell, registered dietitian at St Vincent Dunn Hospital.

This weekend, also look for baked goods, such as a fruit pies. Buyers can purchase whole pies or individual servings from several of the vendors. Leann Daniels offers cinnamon rolls in half-dozens or individually.

Persimmon Ridge Farm, which was new to the market last week, brought granola bars in a variety of natural combinations of fruits and grains. Allison Roodschild and Heather O'Connor bring fresh-baked sweet bread each week.

Craft vendors offer homemade jewelry, unique crocheted toys, handmade bonnets and aprons, quilts and blankets and fabric bags. New pottery vendors bring handmade pie plates, mugs, stoneware crocks and more, with an Americana flare using designs ranging from pirates, skulls, fish designs, and many patriotic symbols and sayings glazed onto the pieces.

The growers will have green onions, greens, beets, summer squashes, onions, kale, fresh herbs, beans and peas, broccoli, among other harvested veggies. Each week brings new vendors, inventive crafts and new jams and honeys to try.

Orleans

More produce is showing up each week, and rumor has it there will be sweet corn from the Newlins' farm. The Orleans market is from 8 a.m. until noon on Congress Square in Orleans.

This week you can expect:

From the farms and gardens: Beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, corn, cucumbers, dill, eggs, gooseberries, green beans, greens, lettuce, onions, peas, potatoes, radishes, rhubarb, spinach, summer squash, tomatoes, turnips, beef, pork, chicken, plants, plant starts, and zucchini.
From the home kitchens: Brownies, cakes, cookies, muffins, scones, cobblers, pies, yeast bread, yeast rolls, pork rinds, granola, lemonade, tea, jam, jelly, pretzels, banana bread, angel food cake, syrups (shag bark hickory, blackberry, peach, maple and strawberry), peanut brittle and dried peppers and much more.
From the crafters: Leather belts, wallets, bracelets, and bags, purses, aprons, dish towels, baby blankets, quilts, baby products, Amish baskets, wind chimes, memorial flag holders, clocks, wood signs, rustic wood furniture, bird houses, bird feeders, crochet and knit items, jewelry, pillows, iron decorations, walking canes, wood carvings, jewelry boxes, gallery glass art, painted items, carved gourds, pot holders, rugs, soaps, lotions, deodorants, goats milk soap, dog collars and leashes and hand puppets.

The jammers will be playing; free coffee will available at the host tent; and the Buck a Book trailer is well-stocked. Every child can pick a free book each market day.

French Lick

On Tuesdays, the market shifts to French Lick, near the Scenic Indiana Railway from 1:30-5 p.m.

This week you can expect potatoes, cookies, breads, cucumbers,green beans, green tomatoes, green onions, radishes, sugar snap peas, rhubarb, syrups (shag bark hickory, blackberry and strawberry, peach), peanut brittle, fudge, caramel corn, aprons, pillows, cloth story books, dish towels, pillows, jewelry, leather bracelets, bookmarks, dog collars, scrubbies and hand-painted glass art, and much more.

Paoli

On Thursdays from 2-6 p.m., the market is in the front parking area of Paoli Wal-Mart.

This week you can expect: cucumbers, onions, potatoes, beets, lettuce, green beans, syrups (strawberry, blackberry, peach, shag bark hickory), blueberries, raspberries, trash bag dolls, belts, aprons, puppets, primitive dolls, doll clothes, eggs, chicken, plants, plant starts, breads and pies.

All Orange County HomeGrown markets accept WIC checks and Hoosier Works SNAP cards.
