Friends Of Milwaukee Trail Volunteers Complete O Street Bridge Project

Last updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Twenty-one volunteers for the Friends of the Milwaukee Trails worked Friday and Saturday on the O Street Bridge installing 180 feet of sub-decking and pedestrian decking and then hauled in, mounted and secured railings on both sides of the bridge.

Brush and debris were cleared under the bridge, bridge pillars were cleaned and primed a stone stairway up to the trail has begun to be constructed.

The group worked in that worked in the rain, cold, wind and sun were Kim Allen; Bob Barber; Gary and Ruthie Beasley; Harley and Linda Brown; Kevin, Kathleen, and Olivia Bullock; Tim Goodin; John Highhouse; Jim Hillenburg, Marla Jones; Dan Leach; Pat Merchant; Debbie and Paul Patton; Marcey Phillips; Ralph Price; Charles Sproull; Brian Webb and our youngest volunteer Bridgett.

Their work could not have been so successful without the support of Greg Flynn and Sons Grading & Excavating; Lowes Home Improvements; Tim and Ann Lynch for lunch; Sigma Steel for producing special brackets; Darrell McCullough and Fabco for winter rail building, anonymous rail haulers and last but not least, the City of Bedford and their fantastic Street Department for "clearing" the way for the event.

Volunteers will meet Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Healthy Balance, 1201 5th Street to discuss their next plan of action.
