(BEDFORD) - Students from surrounding schools are meeting at Bedford North Lawrence High School today and Friday to participate in this year’s All Schools Special Track and Field event.

Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m.

Approximately 320 students from North Lawrence, Mitchell, Eastern Greene, Brownstown, Medora, Orleans and Shoals schools will participate in the event.

In addition to the track and field games, arts and crafts activities will be available. Participants can build noisemakers, blow bubbles and enjoy a playground parachute.

The event, which was called Special Olympics in previous years, acquired 38 sponsors from businesses and community members from Lawrence, Greene and Monroe counties. In return for contributing to the event, the names of the sponsors are listed on the back of more than 500 shirts worn by athletes and volunteers.

Some of the sponsors from Lawrence County include the United Auto Workers, Magic Morning, Mullis Petroleum, Geo-Flo Products Corp. and Free Methodist Church.
