Police Tracking History Of Handgun Used To Shoot Officer

Last updated on Tuesday, May 20, 2014

(BROWNSTOWN) - The sheriff’s department continues its investigation into the May 8 shootout near Tampico that left a deputy and an 18-year-old Brownstown man with gunshot wounds.

The probe includes tracking down the history and ownership of the .38-caliber handgun that police say was used to shoot Officer Rick Meyer twice -- once in each shoulder.

One man, Isiah Tyler Roger, of rural Brownstown, was shot that night in return fire by Meyer.

He has been arrested and is charged with attempted murder. Sheriff Michael Carothers, says Roger's arrest doesn't end the investigation or the possibility of more charges being filed.

Officer Meyer was investigating a report of suspicious people on State Road 39 just south of Tampico when Roger allegedly came out from under the bridge and opened fire.
