Mitchell Junior School Students Can Take Spanish For High School Credit

Last updated on Friday, May 16, 2014

(MITCHELL) - The relatively routine matter of approving new textbooks could bring some changes for Mitchell Junior High School students.

Indiana's public schools regularly update books and other teaching materials, rotating through the subjects.

It's not unusual for schools to keep books for about six years before replacing them. Monday night, Mitchell Assistant Superintendent Phillip Storm brought recommendations for new English and language arts books to the school board for final approval.

The recommendations included new books for Spanish and French, the two foreign languages taught at Mitchell High School. He told the board, under the changes, junior high school students can take Spanish for high school credit.

Storm says the details still have to be finalized.

He also noted that more and more of the instructional materials are moving to online and digital presentations and away from traditional textbooks. The board voted unanimously to adopt the new teaching materials.
