(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University President Michael McRobbie made more than $1 million in fiscal year 2013, according to a new survey from the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Only nine public college presidents - including McRobbie - made more than $1 million in compensation for that year, up from four the previous year.
McRobbie ranked sixth overall for highest paid public university president. He made $1,111,924 in the fiscal year from July 2012 to June 2013, up 70.2 percent from the previous year's compensation, at $653,258.
The amount doesn't include an annual housing allowance of $48,000, use of a university-owned car valued at $46,235 and additional money to cover the tax liability on some of McRobbie's benefits.
McRobbie was the third-highest paid IU employee despite the $1.1 million. IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean made $2, 758,816 in fiscal year 2013, followed by IU football coach Kevin Wilson, who made $1,228,119.
The $1.1 million in payments gave McRobbie the second-highest compensation in a group with 10 other peer institutions that the Chronicle of Higher Education deemed similar to IU Bloomington in finances, student demographics and other characteristics. The highest earner in the group was Sally K. Mason of the University of Iowa, at $1,139,705. The group included Michigan State University, Purdue University in West Lafayette, the University of Missouri in Columbia and several others.
