IU Health Bedford To Host Photography Contest

Last updated on Thursday, May 8, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Photography can help set the mood and tone of any room.

Research shows this is especially true in hospitals, where photography can impact patients and visitors by giving them a feeling of strength, assurance and healing. IU Health Bedford Hospital understands the importance of creating a healing and reassuring environment. To help achieve this, the hospital is hosting a local photography contest.

"As a community hospital, committed to the health and wellbeing of Lawrence County residents, we want to bring more of the community inside the hospital," says Rachel Lott, Community Outreach manager at IU Health Bedford Hospital. "Through this contest, we'll be encouraging local students to take and submit nature and landscape photos of places in Lawrence County."

The contest will be open to all Lawrence County students and will have two divisions based on the student's grade in school. Students currently in kindergarten through 8th grade will be in the intermediate division, while students in 9th through 12th grade will submit photos in the advanced division.

Lott says photos should be of landscapes, nature or still life scenes and should give a feeling of hope.

"For example, an image of a flower blooming or a tree with fresh green leaves would bring a feeling of hope, strength and assurance," she says. "With spring finally arriving, we think there will be many great opportunities to capture the beauty of nature in Lawrence County and display those photos in our hospital."

The top three entries in each division will receive a cash prize and have their photo framed and displayed at IU Health Bedford Hospital. The submission deadline is 4:30 pm on May 23, 2014.
