(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission (BPSC) is now accepting a Letter of Intent for the inaugural Local-Motion Grant Program.
This program is designed to help support actions that celebrate the virtues of Bloomington, while at the same time incorporate values of our walking and bicycling culture.
Individuals, teams, local businesses and nonprofit organizations (including neighborhood groups) are eligible to apply for local initiatives that will advance bicycle and/or pedestrian mobility for area residents. The Local-Motion Grant Program will provide direct support to initiatives that focus on cultural, day-to-day or other locally-based activities that introduce walk and/or bike locomotion into the scope. Possibilities for eligible initiatives are unlimited, but should demonstrate creativity, positive impact and the ability to transform mobility towards a low-impact and healthy way to travel.
Guidelines and the application process for the program are available on the City of Bloomington BPSC website at http://bloomington.in.gov/bpsc. The Letter of Intent deadline is May 15 at 5 p.m. and must be submitted via a web-based form posted on the BPSC website. Applicants will subsequently be required to give a presentation at the June 16 BPSC meeting and submit a final application by July. Details are included in the guidelines.
About the Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission (BPSC)
BPSC is charged with: developing safety programs; serving as a citizen's forum concerning safe access for cyclists, pedestrians and runners; encouraging the hosting of cycling, walking and running events in a safe manner; and reporting and recommending to the Mayor, Council and Public Works regarding cyclist, pedestrian and running issues. 2014 marks the 25th year of service for the commission since it was created in 1989. BPSC meetings are open to the public and meet on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.
