Friends Of Milwaukee Trail Update

Last updated on Tuesday, May 13, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Work continues on the Milwaukee trail.

Volunteer Greg Flynn has been busy working on an area from L Street to Coxton Road, grading the trail surface to correct unexpected washouts, erosion and areas of standing water. He expects the work and application and compacting of gravel on the trail to be completed by the end of the month.

Volunteers are needed Friday to work on the railing modules and on Saturday to focus on cleanup and improving the U Street Trail head and along the trail from L to U streets.

Crews will be cleaning up vegetation and transplanting native and other plants that have been donated along the trail, cleaning up debris and pruning along the banks and removing invasive plants.

The group has also voted to adopt a leave no trace policy regarding trash and the use of the trail. Those using the trail are asked to take out any trash from the trail area. No trash cans will be placed along the trail.

On May 20th, Bob Barber will present Walk with Nature, The Milwaukee Trail, at the Bedfrord Public Library at 6:30 p.m.

Barber, a firefighter at Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department, has more than 40 years of specializing in wildlife photography.

He is a member of the Milwaukee Trails, Sassafras Audubon Society, Volunteer Steward for Sycamore Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club and the Bloomington Photography Club. Bob's photos can be seen at www.flickr.com/photos/crowwarrior44/ and www.facebook.com/MilwaukeeTrailway .
