(UNDATED) - The following is a list of Primary Election results for the surrounding counties.
In Brown County unofficial vote totals in the Republican primary race for sheriff indicate that Brown County Sheriff's Department Detective Lt. Scott Southerland defeated fellow sheriff's department Lt. Brad Stogsdill by just 16 votes.
The third contender in the Republican race, former sheriff's department deputy Mike Adams, got 464 votes.
In Greene County the coroners race has Republican George Ockerman and Democrat Brian Gainey earned their respective party's nominations. They will face off for the office of Greene County Coroner in November's General Election.
Ockerman, of Bloomfield, defeated incumbent Sherri Wilson of Bloomfield and Anthony "Tony" Russell of Switz City, to walk away with the Primary Election win. Ockerman tallied 1,267 while Wilson had 980. Russell obtained 553 votes.
Gainey, of Bloomfield, won his party's nomination by a landslide, defeating Charles "Chuck" Gwyn, of Worthington. Gainey received 1,520 votes, while 368 went to Gwyn. Gainey received a higher percentage of votes than any other candidate in the county.
Ockerman, who has been a deputy coroner for 25 years, has 35 years of experience as an EMT and fire fighter. He's a medical certified death investigator.
The coroner's office isn't new to Gainey. He previously held the office for four years. Gainey got his start in the coroner's office in 1999 under then-coroner Dr. Bill Powers. He served under Dr. Powers until he took over the office following his election in 2006.
Josh Goodman will be the Democratic candidate for Greene County Sheriff in the fall election. He won the primary race against Walter Rannix Tinsley by a landslide. A total of 1,713 votes for Goodman gave him 78.54 percent of the total, compared to 468 votes cast for 21.46 percent of the total for Tinsley. The difference between the two amounted to 1,245 votes, for a difference of 57.08 percent.
Goodman, a resident of Linton, will now face off against the Republican candidate for Greene County Sheriff, Major Michael Hasler who currently serves as the Chief Deputy at the Greene County Sheriff's Department. Hasler, who resides in the Bloomfield area, was unopposed in the Republican primary.
In Washington County, Roger Newlon pulled ahead of David Bower early into the night after only five precincts were reported. Newlon continued to lead the rest of the night and will face Roy Overshiner this fall. Unofficial totals for sheriff: David Bower 822, Roger Newlon 1,522, Danny Libka 633, Roy Overshiner 843 and John Revels 437.
In Daviess County Incumbent sheriff Jerry Harbstreit held off a Republican party primary challenge and appears to be on his way toward a fourth term. Harbstreit received 3,290 votes to 1,586 for challenger Jerry Maddox.
Eric Bassler unseated incumbent John Waterman in the Republican primary for Senate District 39. The apparent margin of victory was around 359 votes. The Bassler challenge was not an easy one. Waterman has spent 20 years in the Indiana Senate.
Nathan Gabhart defeated incumbent Larry Wilson for the District 2 Commissioner's seat by over 1,000 votes.
In Martin County, Prosecutor Mike Steiner defeated challenger Joseph Howell, 65 percent to 35 percent. Since there is no Republican opponent in the November general election, Steiner will win a fourth consecutive term as prosecutor.
Howell, a former judge in Martin County, probably gave Steiner one of his toughest challenges yet. Another incumbent, Paul George, also won easily in his commissioner's contest with newcomer John Collins. This race will also be uncontested in the fall.
A third primary was held in Perry Township as Jason Hennette defeated Joe McAtee for Perry Township Trustee. Hennette was the incumbent.
In Jackson County, Incumbent Sheriff Michael Carothers won the Republican Party's nomination for Jackson County sheriff in Tuesday's primary as he seeks a second term in office.
The Reddington man captured the nomination by securing 60 percent or 1,864 votes of the total 3,103 cast in that race with Jerry Hounshel, who totaled 1,239 or 40 percent of the votes cast.
Carothers now faces Democrat Jeffrey Lane of Cortland during the Nov. 4 general election. Lane was unopposed in the primary election.
In Orange County, Kelly Minton defeated Steve Owen in the race for the Republican nomination for Orange County prosecutor, and Josh Babcock succeeded in his bid for the GOP nomination for Orange County Sheriff. Babcock's opponents were Darryl Terrell and Gary Wininger.
Kelly, the incumbent, garnered 1,901 votes to the 1,493 votes cast for Owen, a former Orange County prosecutor. No Democrat has yet filed for the office,although candidates still have opportunity to enter the race.
In the sheriff's race, Babcock garnered 2,087 votes to the 1,082 ballots cast for Terrell and the 289 for Wininger. In the fall, he will run against Jesse Robling, who was unopposed in his bid for the Democratic nomination.
In another contested race in Orange County, newcomer Matt Henderson claimed the Republican nomination for the Orange County Council District 2 seat, garnering 412 votes to the 374 votes for Greg Farlow and the 412 votes for Debra Hall. Farlow already serves on the council as an at-large representative, but had opted to run for the seat in order to represent a geographic district.
