(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners Tuesday passed an ordinance and fee schedule for gaining information from 39 Degrees North.
Specializing in developing and implementing software for managing Geographic Information Systems, 39 Degrees North provides and maintains the county's geo-database.
County officials have been receiving questions regarding access to the different types of information and Commissioners requested Chris Walls, founder of 39 Degrees North, to provide his company's fees and policy structure.
The commissioners adopted that fee and policy structure. Those wanting to extract one layer of information will pay $500 and those extracting multiple layers will be charged $1,000. Half to the fee will be paid to 39 Degrees North and the other half will go to the county.

Highway Superintendent Dave Holmes reported crews are working on patching roadways.
"So far we have spent about $33,000 in patching roadways so far," Holmes says. "It is going to be a slow process and is going to take a long time to get around to all of them."
Commissioner Dave Flinn questioned the quality of asphalt the county is using to patch roadways. He is wanting an independent lab to test the asphalt to see that is it up to state standards.
"I want to make sure we are getting what we should be getting, instead of taking their (the asphalt company's) word on it," Flinn says.
Flinn is concerned because many of the county roads that were resurfaced last year were cracking before winter hit.
"Everyone is having this problem," Holmes says. "Many of the roads have horizontal cracks in them, some every 30 to 40 feet."
Holmes says an example of that is the northbound passing lane of Ind. 37 between Oolitic and Avoca which the state paved.
Holmes says it could be because of many issues, including not having a good road base, using recycled asphalt and shifting of the ground and water.
Holmes will see what it would cost to have the asphalt tested and report back to the commissioners.
* Sheriff Sam Craig reported the jail is currently housing 139 prisoners. Of those, 1 is a Department of Correction hold and 21 are women.
Craig also requested the commissioners to approve and sign the sharing agreement for drug forfeiture funds. Last year the department received $23,716.85.
Craig says work will continue Thursday on the security measures on the south entrance of the courthouse and the rear entrance at the courthouse plaza
* John Maller of Maximus presented the commissioners with the renew contract for the cost allocation plan. The Title 4D cost plan will cost the county $4,500 for three years. Maximus has been doing business with the county for more than 30 years.
