City To Build New Garage To Hold Sand And Salt Supplies

Last updated on Friday, May 23, 2014

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Board of Works voted to build a new building to hold the city’s salt and sand for treating snow-covered roads.

Project Manager Dan Kirk says the new five-bay 30-by 130 foot long building will replace the old dilapidated building the city is currently using and will be built behind the street department at 14th and H streets.

The building will have a 16-inch-thick concrete floor, and the floor will be treated with a chemical to protect it from being damaged by the salt and sand.

The city received two bids for the project. The board voted to allow Sanders Construction, who submitted the lowest bid at $148,600, to construct the building.

Construction will begin this summer and be completed by September.
