Get Outdoors Day June 21 At Murray Forest Park

Last updated on Tuesday, May 20, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Outdoor games, crafts, archery, horseback riding, demonstrations, and a free lunch for children are slated for Murray Forest Park on Saturday, June 21 to celebrate Get Outdoors Day.

Get Outdoors Day is a Presidential initiative encouraging healthy, active outdoor fun. A variety of local organizations have teamed up to offer opportunities for southern Indiana families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. The intent is to introduce and reconnect people to the outdoors and the many opportunities that are here.

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. During that time, there will be bird hikes, dog demonstrations, pony rides, and games to teach kids about duck migration and bee pollination. Accompanying demonstrations will be set up with bee colonies and pollinator gardens.

Children can learn to shoot a bow, and learn gun safety; they can play old fashion pioneer games, do a hula-hoop, and learn new games to play outdoors. There will be kites to fly and a bounce house to play in. A variety of stations and activities will be available for all ages.
