(BEDFORD) - The Mass Media class of Bedford North Lawrence High School has created a fundraiser for a former student who just died of cancer - Katie Butterfield.
The students are hosting the event Friday at 6 p.m. at the BNL football field to showcase their advertising/public relations campaign to establish a scholarship in memory of Katie, a 2012 graduate of BNL, who passed away in April.
Katie was diagnosed with a soft tissue cancer while she was in high school. She was a sophomore at Ball State University when her cancer returned.
The event will showcase BNL student bands, a bake sale, a 5K run, a 2-mile walk, field games and more. Run/walk participants are asked to secure sponsors or donations for Katie's scholarship fund.
The mass media class will also be selling bracelets and T-shirts.
