BNL Boys To Take On BNL Girls State Champs In Inflatable Duck Race

(BEDFORD) - The first inflatable duck race will be held during Friday’s Ugly Duck Derby, a duck race fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

The event will be held at Thornton Park's John Lowery Pool with the race featuring a showdown of the BNL boys basketball team, Trey Turner, Morgan Cummings and Matt Garrison who will try and outpaddle Sammy Dillman, Whitney Wilson and Emily Riley from the BNL girls state championship team.

Facebook voting is going on to pick your favorite Belly Busters. To vote go to the Ugly Duck Derby page. The diver who receives the most votes will automatically advance to the finals.

Taking the plunge with year are Mario Basinger, Steve Weber, Jeff Callahan, Dr. Mike Miskuf, Shea Hooten, Hope Flores, Dr. Kamal Girgis, Mike Branham, Chris May and Dr. David Schneider.

The event, from 6-9 p.m., will include music and lots of food options, including Huey's Barbecue and Tiger Ears. Those attending are also encouraged to strut their feathers in the Ugly Duck Derby hat contest.

Dozens of prizes have been donated including a week stay in Daytona Beach, Fla., and a weekend in Gatlinburg. To have a chance at a prize, you must purchase a duck. Lucky ducks are $5 each or five for $20 and on sale from any board member, the Bedford Parks Department and the Boys and Girls Club.
