(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bedford man has been arrested after allegedly being involved in shots fired last week in the 1300 block of West 12th Street in Bloomington.
Around 8 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to possible shots fired in the area of Crestmount Apartments community on West 12th Street in Bloomington.
After speaking to witnesses, police were able to link 27-year-old Joshua Dean Phillips to the crime. He was arrested early Monday morning on a preliminary charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
Bloomington police Lt. Scott Oldham says that no injured people were found in area of shooting.
Dozens of residents, adults and children, watched as Bloomington officers and detectives investigated.
Some of the officers knocked on doors and spoke to residents, while Det. Joe Henry interviewed children who saw the shooting.
Witnesses reported seeing two different vehicles speed away after the shots were fired - a blue Ford Ranger and a light-colored passenger car and that the driver of the truck was named Josh.
According to Sgt. Joe Crider, investigators determined that six rounds were fired from a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck with a chrome toolbox that was being operated by two white males. Police believe the shots were intended for a Hispanic male known as "Chevy" and witnesses reported seeing a Hispanic male and white female run from the area.
Around 2 a.m. Monday, police received a tip that Phillips was in the area of the 1300 block of West 12th Street. Officers found Phillips, who told police he was driving the Ford Ranger that night, but his passenger was the one that fired the shots at "Chevy" as he ran from the shooters. Phillips says he then drove the truck around the area searching for "Chevy," and more shots were fired when they located him. They then fled the area.
Crider says no one was injured during the shooting.
The case is an open investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joe Henry at 812-349-3907.
