Anne Todd Nominated For 2014 Extraordinary Healer Award

Last updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County’s Anne Todd, an oncology nurse at Indiana University Oncology office in Bloomington, has been nominated for the 2014 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing through CURE magazine.

She is one of three nurses across the nation to have been nominated for the award.

She was nominated by Chuck Wilson of Bloomington, whose close friend was a patient of Todd's before succumbing to the disease earlier this year. Wilson wrote an essay nominating Todd, of Guthrie, for the coveted award.

It was a surprise Todd knew nothing about the award until she received a call in March from the staff of CURE magazine -- one of the most widely distributed magazines in the nation for people with cancer -- telling her that Wilson had nominated her for the award. A couple of weeks later, she found out she was a finalist.

The Todds flew to Anaheim, Calif., today, along with Wilson and his guest for the Oncology Nursing Society's 39th annual meeting, which is where the award winner will be announced.

Todd will get to preview the essay Wilson wrote before appearing on stage, where Wilson will read the essay as Todd stands beside him.

Afterward, one winner will be announced. The winner will receive an all-expense paid spa trip for two and the winning essay will appear in the summer 2014 issue of CURE. Actor, director and author Rob Lowe was be the featured speaker at the conference.
