Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School Receives Support/Music Merit Award

Last updated on Wednesday, April 2, 2014

(FRENCH LICK) - Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School received the SupportMusic Merit Award from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

The SupportMusic Merit Award is presented to individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the SupportMusic Merit Award, Springs Valley answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Institute for Educational Research and Public Service of Lawrence, Kan., an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

Only 66 schools in the United States received that award. In addition to the NAMM award, the Springs Valley band was honored with another achievement.

The band's winter percussion ensemble won the Indiana Percussion Association's state championship runner-up title. It marked the highest finish in the school's history.
