(SALEM) - A Salem man was arrested following an incident which left his female passenger on his motorcycle seriously injured.
45-year-old Jimmy Tash, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OW with a blood-alcohol content of .15 or above.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Tash's blood-alcohol contents was nearly twice the legal limit. His passenger 28-year-old Megan Gilbert, of Salem, suffered skull fractures and was flown from St. Vincent Salem Hospital to University of Louisville Hospital.
She was not wearing a helmet. The crash was reported at 1:15 a.m. on April 5 by a woman who had stopped to assist at the crash site at the intersection of West Market and South Harrison streets.
Gilbert was lying face down in the roadway. She had lost a significant amount of blood and was bleeding from her ear.
The woman told police when they arrived Tash was attempting to get Gilbert up. When the woman asked if Tash had called 911, he said that Gilbert was fine and he didn't need help and continued to try and get Gilbert up.
One of the women called 911.
Tash then told the women that Gilbert had attempted to jump off his 2005 Harley Davidson Road King.
Then he told the woman that when he was coming up the road Gilbert had just fallen off the motorcycle. He said the two had just left a local bar and he didn't want to leave but she did.
Tash appeared in court Monday and posted a $1,000 bond and was released. The accident remains under investigation.
