Last updated on Wednesday, April 2, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - Phase one of the Monroe County Public Library renovations is scheduled to begin this month and continue through September.

The MCPL Board of Trustees has approved $975,500 for contractor funds and roughly $450,000 for the library's direct expenses to complete the renovations.

MCPL Director Sara Laughlin says part of the plans include a new community outreach offices and new meeting room and renovation of the library's auditorium, space for a bookstore and children's program room. The second phase will begin in January 2015

The space on the first floor dedicated to movies and music, as well as the current Community Outreach offices and bookstore, will become a teen center and digital creativity lab.

The teen center will be limited to middle school and high school students, but the digital creativity lab will be open to everyone. The lab will have two professional sound booths and a video production studio with professional-level software.
