Paving Work Begins On Fifth Street

Last updated on Wednesday, April 9, 2014

(BEDFORD) - INDOT crews will be filling potholes and repaving Fifth Street from Ind. 37 to just past Rocky Creek East.

The street is a state highway, so INDOT is responsible for its upkeep.

INDOT spokeswoman Cher Elliott says crews from Dave O'Mara Contractor Inc. will be doing a peel and pave. Heavy equipment will be used to grind off about an inch of asphalt off the surface and then crews will put down a layer of new pavement.

But first the potholes will be filled and crews will be upgrading sidewalks where they intersect with the road with curb ramps being brought up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

The work should be completed by early August.

Motorist that use Fifth Street and Heltonville Road should budget extra time for trips because of some delays and lane restrictions.

O'Mara, out of North Vernon won the bidding with a price of $787,328.

Those with questions about the project can contact INDOT at (800) 279-5758 or visit swincommunications@indot.in.gov.
