Mitchell Man Injured After Crashing Vehicle

(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was injured after he lost control of his 2000 Jeep Cherokee after he told police he swerved to miss a deer Sunday at 10:05 p.m.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 23-year-old Kurtis Williams was traveling north on Rabbitsville Road when he told police he swerved and accelerated to miss a deer.

The Jeep ran off the east side of the road, striking a mailbox then continued traveling north where the vehicle ran off the west side of the road, went airborne and struck a tree. The vehicle then spun around and stopped facing south.

Williams complained of neck pain and was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.

According to the police report, Williams has a blood-alcohol content of .15 and police are awaiting the results of a drug test.

A Seals ambulance and Marion Volunteer Fire Department and Mitchell Police officers assisted at the scene.
