Marjorie Tweedale Named Grants And Agreements Speicalist For Hoosier National Forest

Last updated on Thursday, April 17, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Marjorie Tweedale is the new Grants and Agreements Specialist serving the Hoosier National Forest and the Wayne National Forest in Ohio as well as the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie in Illinois. Tweedale will work out of the Hoosier National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Bedford.

Tweedale came to the Hoosier from the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri and before that she worked on the Finger Lakes National Forest in New York. She has also served in the military, both on active duty and in the National Guard.

Tweedale grew up in New York and has degrees in business administration and environmental studies. She, her husband and dogs are living outside of Bedford and have found the community to be very welcoming. Her husband does rock cutting for jewelry.

"Grants and agreements are not new to the Hoosier," said Tweedale, "but it is new to have someone locally to coordinate the agreements."

She explains there are seven types of agreements she handles for national forests. These include cooperative law enforcement agreements, cooperative road agreements, fire agreements with other fire control agencies, and participating agreements. She added a participating agreement might include working with a landowner to include his private inholding in a prescribed burn area.

Other examples of agreements are interagency agreements and Challenge Cost Shares which allow funds to change hands between partners to accomplish projects. Agreements might also be collection agreements which allow partners to assist the Forest in paying for a project or a Memorandum of Understanding which provide a legal framework to work on projects with other entities.

Tweedale said though she is new to the Hoosier, she feels like she fits right in, and has been here years instead of weeks. Questions for Marjorie Tweedale regarding grants and agreement should be directed to the Hoosier's Bedford Office at (812) 275-5987 or to mtweedale@fs.fed.us.
