(BROWNSTOWN) - A Scott County man was sentenced to home detention and probation in connection with the September 2012 death of a Seymour teen.

19-year-old Garan Alexander Terrell of Austin entered an open plea sentence on a felony charge of causing death when operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a Schedule I or II controlled substance. Two other charges, including reckless homicide were dismissed.

The charge stems from an accident that led to the death of his girlfriend, 17-year-old Danika Collins of Seymour.
Terrell was arrested following the wreck on Seymour's far west side. The crash involved a car and a parked trailer owned by Seymour Police Department.

Seymour Assistant Police Chief Craig Hayes says that Collins, died from blunt force trauma to the chest. She was a front-seat passenger in a car driven by Terrell.

Terrell was taken to Schneck Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

A back-seat passenger, 18-year-old Tanner Payton of Seymour, who suffered facial injuries was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville.
