(UNDATED) - Schools in Medora, Paoli and Mitchell have scheduled dates to register children for kindergarten classes.

To enter school this fall, each child must be five years of age on or before August 1.

Mitchell kindergarten screenings will be conducted April 22-24. On the day of the screening, parents should bring their child, the child's birth certificate and immunization records, as well as proof of custody, if applicable.

At Medora Elementary School registration will be May 24 from 1-3 p.m. and from 4-6 p.m. on May 24 in the school cafetorium. Parents wishing to register a child should contact Rita Bennett at the school for an appointment.

Kindergarten screening at Throop Elementary School in Paoli begins Tuesday. There will be two sessions Tuesday and Wednesday and one session Thursday morning. Morning sessions begin at 9 a.m. each day, with afternoon sessions beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Parents/guardians should arrive with children at least 10 minutes before each session. Screening takes approximately two hours and while children are being screened, parents will attend an orientation session. Call the school at (812) 723-3537 for an appointment.

To be eligible to attend kindergarten this fall, students must be five years old on or before Aug. 1. A waiver may be granted by the Superintendent for children born between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1.

Parents and guardians should bring a copy of the child's legal birth certificate (not the small souvenir copy from the hospital) and an up-to-date record of immunizations.

A new state mandate will require added immunizations for Hepatitis A, to the list of inoculations children must have before enrolling in school next fall.

Indiana law now requires all children entering school to now have five DPT shots, four for polio, two MMR shots, three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine and two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine before entering school.

All kindergarten and first-grade students are required to have two chickenpox shots or a history of having had the disease.

Indiana law requires all students to have their immunizations before entering school in the fall.
If anyone has any questions regarding the required immunizations, contact your school district's central office or your county health department.

There will be additional immunizations required beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Make sure your child is up to date by checking with your physician or local health department.
