Freetown Man Dies After Car Crashes Into Tree

Last updated on Wednesday, April 23, 2014

(HURON) - A Freetown man died after crashing his vehicle into a tree Tuesday night.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 48-year-old Stephen Springer of Freetown was on U.S. 50 West, just east of Huron Road when his 2011 Dodge Nitro went off the southside of the road.

Police say that evidence at the scene shows that Springer overcorrected the car causing the vehicle to go into the westbound lane. The vehicle then went down a ditch and hit a tree which caused the vehicle to invert.

Springer was wearing a seat belt during the accident.

When emergency crews arrived at 7:39 p.m., they found that Springer had no pulse and that he was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr.

An autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.

Assiting at the scene were the Huron Volunteer Fire Department, Bedford Fire Department and a Seals ambulance crew.
